Privacy notice
Last updated: 21 October 2026
GotDouble is a free app for swapping duplicate collectibles, such as stickers, trading cards and figures. This notice explains, in plain language, what personal information the app keeps, why, and your rights under the Protection of Personal Information Act, 2013 (POPIA).
The short version: we keep only what the app needs to arrange swaps. We never store your location, we never sell your information, and you can delete your account in the app at any time.
What we store
- Your email address: to sign you in and send account emails, such as a code to confirm your email or reset your password.
- Your username: so other collectors can recognise you when you swap.
- A profile photo and short bio: only if you add them, shown on your profile.
- Apple or Google sign-in: if you sign in with Apple or Google, an account identifier from them so we can recognise you. We never see your Apple or Google password.
- Your date of birth: only to check that you are 18 or older. It is never shown to anyone, including other collectors.
- Your item photos: the photos you post of the items you have spare, what kind of item each is, and any photo you offer in a swap.
- Your swaps (exchanges): who offered what, the shop and time you agreed on, any note you added, and whether the swap was completed or cancelled.
- Your messages: the chat between you and other collectors, and the swap updates we add to it (offers, new times, cancellations), so you can arrange swaps in one place.
- Reports and blocks: reports you make or that are made about you, and the people you block, so we can keep the app safe.
- Your push token: a code from your phone that lets us send you notifications about your swaps and messages. Turn notifications off and we stop using it.
What we don’t store
We never store your location. Swaps happen at shops listed in the app, so we don’t need to know where you are.
Who can see what
Other collectors see your username and the items you post. When you agree to a swap, the other person sees the shop and time you agreed on. Your email address and date of birth are never shown to other collectors. A small team of staff can see account details to run the app, answer questions and review reports.
Your messages are private between you and the person you’re chatting with. Our staff don’t read conversations. They only see a message if someone reports it, together with the messages around it, so they can understand what happened. If you block someone, you can’t message each other any more and the conversation disappears for both of you.
Why we use it
We use your information only to run GotDouble: to let you post items and arrange swaps, to keep the app safe, to send you notifications about your swaps and messages, and to meet our legal obligations. We don’t use it for advertising and we don’t sell it.
Sharing
We share personal information only with service providers that help us run the app (such as hosting, email delivery and push notifications), under agreements that require them to protect it, or when the law requires us to.
How long we keep it
We keep your information while your account is open. When you delete your account, we delete it together with your posts, photos, swaps, conversations and messages, blocks, and the reports you made or that name you.
Deleting your account
You can delete your account at any time from the app’s settings. If you can’t get into the app, email us and we’ll help.
Your rights
Under POPIA you may ask what personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct or delete it, and object to how we use it. You may also complain to the Information Regulator (inforegulator.org.za).
